Sustainable Ringwood's Green Team
In partnership with Sustainable New Jersey, Sustainable Ringwood’s Green Team was formed to highlight and preserve the unique character and beauty of Ringwood. During Councilwoman Kathy O’Keefe’s term, she resurrected the Green Team after a long hiatus. Under the leadership of Jennifer Hsu, the team continues to work to reduce waste and promote a healthy environment.
In 2018, the Green Team secured Sustainable Jersey’s Bronze certification for the Borough of Ringwood and was again awarded this certification in 2021. The Green Team was the first group to collect plastic to earn a Trex Bench which was donated to the Ringwood Public Library. The Green Team was also the first group to outline what property owners can do to maintain healthy lakes. In 2020, the Green Team developed and published a digital brochure on how to maintain healthy lakes. The Green Team has conducted educational programs on backyard composting, ecologically friendly lawn and garden care and gardening with native plants. Videos of these presentations are available on the YouTube channel of the Ringwood Public Library. The Green Team has been awarded three grants from Sustainable Jersey. The 2023 grant award is for $10,000.
The Green Team’s vision is to establish ecologically sustainable practices in Ringwood by leading and/or supporting community efforts to reduce waste, cut greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment. By supporting actions and policies that preserve the natural beauty and historical character of the community, the Green Team will ensure that future generations enjoy a stronger, healthier and greener Ringwood. They are committed to the principle that conserving today will preserve tomorrow.
